Signature Studio’s recent project involved developing cohesive yet designer custom Axminster carpets for the Frankston RSL refurbishment. BSPN Architects chose the woven medium, not only for its luxurious craftsmanship but also for durability and colour variety. What’s more, the carpet’s 80% wool and 20% nylon composition, ensures walking comfort and relief from standing.
The reception area carpet is inspired by the watercolour effects of a feature wallpaper. It brings alive the ocean’s deep blue tones and blue-tinted greys. The gaming room carpet, on the other hand, which comes off the reception area, relates in terms of softness. This carpet creates a moody feel with pattern linework in a large-scale placement design. It also introduces deep burgundy reds to contrast the blues.
As we move into the cafe area, the interior assumes a feminine and daytime feel with soft peaches and subtle colour diffusions into the green. The pattern inspirations come from large geometric shapes and topographic lines, contrasted with soft sand dunes and textures.
Taking on a more masculine design than its cafe counterpart is the custom carpet in the Sports Bar. What’s more, it’s inspired by marble’s naturally-occurring veins, with the regimented patterning of geometry.
Speaking of the collaboration, Studio Team Leader Vesna Mallia says, “We developed a trusted design relationship on a previous project with BSPN Architecture. They were very pleased with the outcome, which led them to pursue yet another creative partnership with Signature Studio.”
In terms of the workflow, our process involved working closely with the project architects. We came up with concept ideas for the carpets that further crystallised through close conversations and visual communication.
